Korean and Japanese skincare practices

The Korean approach to skincare, which uses 10 steps, was gaining popularity with Americans.
More recently, the Japanese approach to skincare, which is simplified to four steps,
has also gained traction in the United States.
While the sophistication of the Korean skincare regimen is still referenced by many in the U.S.,
the simplified Japanese skincare regimen has recently gained traction.

Company selling Japanese products triples sales

The Japanese skincare regimen is centered around skin hydration, starting with cleansing and ending with moisturizer.
The Korean skincare regimen has 10 steps, including exfoliation and sheet masks,
which can be overwhelming to consumers who follow it.
Japan’s high quality products have become so popular that one company that sells Japanese products recently tripled its sales in a single year.

Korean products are still more popular than Japanese ones

As such, the simple and effective Japanese skincare regimen is gaining traction with American consumers as an alternative to the Korean skincare regimen.
However, Korean skincare products are still competitive with Japanese skincare products, ranking third in the world.
We also researched popular skincare brands on social media like TikTok and found that more than half of them are Korean brands.
